Thanks very much for this piece, I really enjoyed it.
I too went to Felsted and left in 1975 with ambitions to make films, did drama at Loughborough. Peter Lydon was one of my comtemporaries.

Trying to get into films then, all seemed to work on the basis of who one knew. Despite meetings with the likes of Lord Brabourne and Elliot Kastner, I didn't have the bottle to take it all the way.
Your piece has re-affirmed to me that there actually are no formulas or boundaries, just the ones we bound ourselves with. Congratulations to you for having the courage not to accept the established rules

Yours sincerely

And lo and behold, just when you thought you'd lost it forever, here it pops up: http://vimeo.com/1333564

Courtesy of your partner in crime, the nameless DoP. Email me sometime, bud, would love to catch up over a beer next time you're in New York.

Bloody goody for you! This is true of life, not just film-making, and it's what I tell my children. Do what you love. But make sure you do it and not just dream or talk about doing it. It can be done and the difference between success and failure is perseverance, particularly in the face of challenges and criticism. Beautifully written too.

I saw it. I thought it was quite good! You had a very capable lead actor which often helps take the edge off any roughness in low-budget film-making.

I love the fact that you made your decisions, came up with solutions, and just went out and did it. Fabulous. Obviously wondering now whether anyone is going to be able to dig out a copy...

You realise we want to see it, even if you don't. Now we have the additional insight into the process, it would be fascinating to layer that over the film. Or laugh lots...

PS Did the fried actress ever speak to you again?

Great post. I am always really curious how people ended up doing what they do, especially when they so clearly love it.
