A few more thoughts…

So I’ve been gone from Twitter for an hour or so now and it is weird. Something came on the TV and I opened Tweetie, without thinking, to let people know about it. Tweetie told me my account no longer existed. A strange feeling.

I think it will work out though. The half of me that writes needs to live more in my own head. I need to interact with the world to get inspiration but I need to take that stimulus and internalise it. I need to chew it over for a while so that I can spit it out as something else. I think the problem with Twitter was that I wasn’t letting anything gestate; if something occurred to me, I could just throw it out there instantly. Consequently, I was starting to feel like I had no ideas in my head. The well was leaking badly. Hopefully it will start to fill up again now.

You’ll notice the design of this blog has changed. This is not necessarily a permanent new design but I think I’ll be posting on here much more frequently and writing shorter pieces, so I wanted a layout that was a little more conducive to that. I’m hoping that, rather than tweeting 50 bits of nonsense a day, I might instead be able to put my thoughts down here in a more coherent fashion. We’ll see.

About Julian

I am a writer and director of film, TV and radio. Recent credits include "Spooks", "Hustle" and "New Tricks". I'm currently swamped with writing work and using this site as a form of procrastination. For more info, please see the two "About" pages listed above.

Sounds like the right call. Kind of preferring this version – it’s nice to hear your opinions in more than 140 char.

I’m hearing you matey and … I want to follow suit. Its so easy to get absorbed into the shitmungering that goes on in Twitter and I myself have found that I have “neglected” it more lately… (that’s the gult coming through now.. ) You are a talented man.. you keep writing… you are better than 140 char and you know it X

Interestingly enough I read your blog long before Twitter. I was looking around at blogs to see how people were picking content. I liked yours because it was about whatever tickled your fancy.

It helped me to decide to use my blog as a place to throw out thoughts & ideas. More of a warm up for the rest of my writing day. I look forward to reading your blog content.

You and Mari are my favorites. Now I have to go write. I am starting to wonder if this blog a day thing for a year was such a good idea.

Sorry to see you have “Fryed” Julian. You never failed to make me laugh with your general disgust at the world around you.
Twitter can be for some an addiction of sorts and I fully support your decision to go cold turkey, albeit with a sense of sadness.
It will be Twitter’s loss and your gain I’m sure.
Good luck with all your future projects.
All my best wishes to a very talented, fucking funny cunt.

Very sorry to see you go. Totally understand your reasons. Twitter can be very compulsive and distracting. Through twitter I have had the great pleasure of discovering various talents (yourself and Jana included) that I wouldn’t have otherwise known about. @agentelli and I have, and will continue to enjoy seeing your work on screen. Will continue to drop in on your blog. You’ve made us laugh.
    Bye x
    Claire
