Hack the world…

By way of an update: I’ve been away from Twitter for one week. In the two weeks prior to quitting, I wrote 30 pages of the screenplay I was working on. In the six days after I quit, I wrote 45 pages. ‘Nuff said.

Between now and Christimas, I have to write a major re-draft of the “Sniper One” screenplay, an outline document for a new TV series, a pitch document for a different TV series, inevitable re-drafts of New Tricks and a radio play. Christmas is the deadline for all of this because, as of January, I should be directing again. Looks like I picked the right time to leave Twitter!

I was browsing my collection of TED podcasts this morning and this one struck me as providing just the right inspiration for a cold weekend: Tim Ferriss’s unique brand of life-hacking…

By the way, I think this is the design I’m happy with for the blog for the moment. Any thoughts?

I’m currently reading “Outliers” by Malcolm Gladwell, which is well worth a look.

  • I like it. Looks newspapery, in a good way.

I love the way you can see a bit of all your recent posts, definitely something I want to get changed on my blog.

The only thing I would suggest is maybe adding some cool graphics/designs in the banner area. Think it might make it a bit more memorable, but either way I think it works.

    • I agree with you about the graphics, but this template doesn’t allow for banner images, unfortunately. It was a sticking point, but I liked the rest of the design enough to overlook it.

  • Mmm. Not really enthused about this version. A bit too bland. Maybe you could include a funky background instead? Like newspaper cutouts with words ‘cunt’, ‘fuck’, ‘bastard’ and ‘cock’ at least? ;)

  • I am going to switch my blog away from blogspot and to word press when I finish my new book. I am going to do the smart thing on the design. I am going to pay Mari to do it.

I like the look and agree with Mari. It sucks that you can’t add the graphics. It would definitely add some jazz to the page.

  • Your newly de-cluttered site compliments your newly de-cluttered brain, I think. Not sure if the home page would read better with articles ageing downwards, then into the second column, rather than left-to-right (if that makes any sense).

That Tim Ferris lacks a bit of confidence for my liking. Well-grounded, articulate bastard.

  • We like functional – this is my favourite design thus far…

  • Well done on the post Twitter writing. Sounds like a heavy workload…I guess you have looked at a calendar recently – the weeks are flying by.

I was only vaguely aware of Amanda Palmer/Dresden Dolls before your recommendation to check her/them out. I am forever gratful to you for making me aware of her music. A remarkable talent, shame I missed the gigs a few weeks ago.
